In a first-of-its-kind initiative towards gender equality, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) swapped male stick figures on traffic signal signages with female ones on 240 pedestrian crossings. Hence, Mumbai became the first city of India to take a step towards gender inclusivity by having a female character on traffic signals as well as road signboards.
