The students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) staged a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Hyderabad on December 16. They were also protesting against the National Register of Citizens (NRC). A large number of students participated in the protest and raised slogans against the central government. Police personnel have been deployed to look after the law and order situation. President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to Citizenship Amendment Bill on December 13 which will give Indian citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants who faced persecution in three neighbouring countries- Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
