JK villagers forced to drink contaminated water due to acute crisis

People in Jammu and Kashmir’s Darsoo village are facing acute water crisis. Locals in the village are force to fetch contaminated drinking water from a pond as village faces acute water crisis.“I'm 66, seeing this for last 40 yrs. Water tanker comes once a week. Even animals drink water from here,” a local told ANI. “We send our children early morning to fetch water. There is a water tank, but there are no pipes or taps in our homes. We request govt to make arrangement at the earliest and install taps at our homes so that we don't have to live on this contaminated water,” another local told ANI. Meanwhile, an official of Jal Shakti depart, said a water scheme will be implemented soon this village. “I think there are 450 households there and we've covered 120-125 of them under distribution system. Rest of the houses is provided water via water tankers once a week. We have a scheme, it'll be implemented soon,” Sandeep Gupta, Asst Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti (PHE), Udhampur to ANI.
