Indian Ocean Region forms an important part of oceanic commons shared by the world, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at an event in Bengaluru on February 04. “The region has, for a large part of human history, been central to evolution of societies and has had an everlasting impact on relations between littoral nations. Indian Ocean Region acts as a constant source of resources, particularly in sectors of fisheries, aquaculture, ocean energy, sea-bed mining and minerals. It provides tremendous economic opportunities to develop marine tourism and shipping activities,” he added.
