While addressing the public at a nomination rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua on September 30, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gopal Bhargava allegedly violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by saying that, “Kantilal Bhuria (Congress candidate for Jhabua by-poll) represents Pakistan.” Speaking to ANI, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Jhabua Abhay Kharadi said, “Gopal Bhargava was found to have violated ECI rules. He was found to have violated multiple sections of IPC, Representation of the People Act. He was also found to have violated Model Code of Conduct.” “So, an FIR against him has been registered at Jhabua police station,” SDM added. Bhargava added, “This is not an election between two parties but it is an election between Hindustan and Pakistan. Bhanu Bhuria represents Hindustan and Kantilal Bhuria represents Pakistan. He represents the interest of the powers who promote Pakistan. You have to tell whether you stand with India or Pakistan.” In September, the Election Commission had announced assembly elections and by-elections across 13 states scheduled for October 21. The results will be announced on October 24.
