Delta plus variant more infectious compared to alpha variant AIIMS Doctor

Associate Professor of Department of Biochemistry in Delhi’s AIIMS, Doctor Subhradip Karmakar on June 22 shared information about Delta plus variant of COVID-19 and said that Delta plus variant is more infectious compared to alpha variant. “Delta plus has additional mutant K417N, that converts Delta (B.1.617.2) to Delta plus. There are speculations that this mutant is more contagious and it's 35-60% more infectious compared to alpha variant. It could be potentially contagious. But in India, the numbers are still very low. It is still a variant of interest and not a variant of concern yet, as the number of infected people is low,” said Dr Karmakar
