Delhi government on January 11 banned import of packaged or processed meat in view of bird flu. “If we look in the current situation, then only the samples (of ducks) that had been taken from Sanjay Lake, tested positive for bird flu. We are reviewing the area and have sanitised it. Apart from that, no need to worry as such. Some more samples have been sent to Jalandhar whose results are awaited. I have reviewed the whole situation with officials today morning and on the basis of that, I want to say that there is no need to worry or panic. Government is doing every bit to combat its spread. As a precautionary measure, we have banned import of live birds/stocks. Today morning, we also took decision that import of packaged or processed meat is also banned in Delhi,” said Sisodia. As per the information of Animal Husbandry Department of the Delhi government, bird flu confirmed in the national capital after testing eight samples from dead crows and ducks on January 11.
