All India Muslim law board to challenge SC's alimony verdict. AIMPLB cited Islamic law (Sharia) and said it will explore ways to get Supreme Court’s recent verdict overturned. The board said allowing divorced Muslim women to claim maintenance beyond the 'iddat' period is against Sharia. The board has also decided to speak to the central government and the Opposition on this matter. On July 10, the top court ruled that a Muslim woman, divorced through "triple talaq," can seek maintenance from her husband. The court further ruled that the "religion-neutral" provision applies to all married women regardless of their personal law.
