Swaraj was speaking in the background of the death of Nido Taniam, a youngster from Arunachal Pradesh. Taniam was beaten to death in Delhi in an alleged racial attack.

While speaking in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Swaraj said, "People with flat noses are as much Indians as those with sharp ones."

This stereotype being used by Swaraj is shocking. The BJP leader said, "Congress Vice President, Delhi CM are sitting on a dharna instead of ensuring people's safety. Arunachal Pradesh is also a part of India and children of the Northeast are as Indian as anyone else."

Speaking in Parliament and being such an influential leader, Swaraj using such words reaffirms the stereotype rather than quashes it.
