The government might be promoting Beti Bachao, but this slogan sounds hollow in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, where a father kept his daughter and wife imprisoned for 11 years.
She didn’t know anything outside her house, and it was only when Zee Rajasthan reached the house did the matter come to light.
They were imprisoned in a small house in Khatipura in Jhotwara area of Jaipur. The girl’s father – who kept her captive for 11 years – claimed that he did so because his wife was mentally ill. Yet, instead of getting his wife treated, he kept his daughter captive.
Even the man’s relatives tried to reason with him, but he was adamant and refused to listen to them.
After Zee Rajasthan aired the story, the authorities were informed of the daughter’s plight and they swung into action. The police visited the father and gave him a two-day ultimatum to send his daughter to school. The father promised to send his daughter to school and get his wife treated.
Workers from social organisations were also present, and the father was warned that action would be taken against him unless he cleaned up his act.
