YSRC chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy conveyed this to BJP national president Amit Shah, when the latter called him over phone to inform about the candidature of Venkaiah.

"Being a Telugu, we will extend our support to Venkaiah Naidu. Our party's stand has been that election to constitutional posts like president, vice president and Lok Sabha speaker should be unopposed. So, we will fully support him," Jagan told Shah.

The YSRC is the lone opposition party in Andhra Pradesh.

It has eight MPs in Lok Sabha and one in Rajya Sabha.

The party also voted for NDA's presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind in today's election.
