Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, while addressing the National Security Guards (NSG) in West Bengal's Rajarhat, said that it is the work of the NSG to develop fear in people who are trying to divide India and disrupt the country's peace. Further, he insisted that the NSG should 'retaliate' if the aforementioned people do not stop with the anti-national activities.

The Union Home Minister was addressing the inaugural function of the 29 Special Composite Group complex of NSG in Rajarhat. "It is the work of the NSG to develop fear in people who think and work towards dividing and disrupting peace in our country," Shah said, adding, "If these people still do not stop, then the NSG should retaliate."

He also warned that "anyone who takes the lives of soldiers will have to pay dearly". India only wants peace in the entire world, the Home Minister said, but the country will not take light note of anyone who disrupts its peace.

"We want peace in the entire world. In our history of 10,000 years, India has never attacked anyone. We would not allow anyone to disrupt our peace. And anyone who takes the lives of soldiers will have to pay dearly. People who want to want to divide the nation and disrupt its peace, they should fear the presence of NSG. If they still come, it is the responsibility of the NSG to fight them and defeat them," Amit Shah said.

The Home Minister also kept the NSG at the forefront of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'zero-tolerance' policy regarding terrorism.

"Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are following the policy of zero-tolerance against terrorism and NSG takes the leading role in delivering upon it. After PM Modi came to power, a distinct differentiation has been made between India's defence and foreign policy, which wasn't like this in the past," Shah said.

Finally, he expressed his confidence in the NSG and said that the Centre, too, will, in turn, fulfill all expectations of the security personnel in return for their service towards the nations. Their families will be taken care of and the personnel will be provided with modern equipment and technology, Shah said.

"Under the leadership of Modi Ji, the government of India will definitely fulfill all expectations that NSG has. We will try to fulfill it within a period of five years. We can provide you good accommodation, the government can take care of the needs of your families, we can provide you with modern equipment and technology, but wars are won by the bravery and not equipment," the Home Minister said, adding, "This bravery wins wars, pieces of equipment just play a role. Equipment and technology can never replace this bravery."

He also praised the NSG for proving its presence in the entire country after the Centre decided to expand the NSG following the Mumbai attacks.

The Home Minister is also scheduled to address two public meetings in Kolkata later in the day. However, members of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and left parties were on this day seen demonstrating near the airport against the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the city.

The developments come ahead of municipal elections in the state which are likely to be held this April.

Amit Shah is expected to formally announce BJP's unique strategy 'Aar Noy Annyay' in the upcoming election run-up, to amplify incumbent voices in the state against the ruling Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.
