The fire broke out on Aruna Asaf Ali Road when the bus was on its way to Mori gate, they said.

Two fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire, but the bus was completely gutted.

"Fire was put out. But the bus was completely gutted. Prima facie it appeared that fire broke out due to some short-circuit in the engine of the bus," a fire official said.

According to the driver, he saw smoke coming out from the engine and immediately stopped the bus. He asked all the passengers to get down.

While this bus was from DTC's old fleet, nine new low-floor buses have caught fire in less than a month.
