The state forest department has decided to go for a massive plantation across the state with the support of the community.

Chief minister Neiphiu Rio in a message highlighted the importance of this special day and called upon the people to renew their pledge for preservation of the environment to ensure a sustainable development.

Year 2010 has been declared by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as International year of Biodiversity with the slogan "Many species, One planet, One future."

Rio appealed to all to inculcate and cultivate the ethics of conservation since it is the very basis on which the future of this state shall be built upon.
