The record was registered by the representatives of the World Amazing Records and Wonder Book of Records at the "Surya Namaskar--Ek Avishkar" event here, a state government release said.

The 15,000 students of various institutions of the Nashik-based NSPM had started doing sun salutations on February 3, 2017, it said.

The 15,000 students on Wednesday completed the last leg of Surya Namaskars at the divisional sports complex in Panchvati area in Old City.

The NSPM runs various schools and colleges, and a private ITI, in Nashik district.

On the occasion, Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan appealed to the students and youths to perform sun salutations everyday for good health and overall development.

"Foreigners have understood the importance of sun salutations. Youths in India should take this form of exercise to the global level and at the same time should work to ensure that the exercise roots firmly in the country," the minister said.

Participating in the concluding event, Mahajan also completed a few rounds of sun salutations.
