According to Gaekwad Haveli police station officials, the woman in question is one Shabanabanu Sheikh, a resident of Tanha flats in the Machipir area. Sources added that Sheikh, in her complaint, has alleged that she has been continuously harassed by her husband Sajjadhussain Sheikh and his family.

The complaint says that Shabanabanu's husband grew suspicious after a vegetable vendor started following his wife. He started alleging that she had an affair with him. Besides, her in-laws, including her mother-in-law Aasubibi Sheikh, sister-in-law Samabanu Sheikh and one Lilo Sheikh, started harassing her after raising questions about her contribution to household work.

The height of harassment was when the entire family dragged Shabanabanu into the kitchen, and forced her to drink a concoction of a liquid mixed with powdered mosquito repellent sticks. Shabanabanu is now in the hospital undergoing treatment following the incident, sources said.

Gaekwad Haveli police officials told DNA that the accused have been booked for attempt to murder. Police inspector of Gaekwad Haveli police station, AY Sarvani, said, "We are investigating the matter, and the process of collecting evidence against the accused is still on."

Sources said that although prima facie, no evidence supporting the allegations have been found as of now, more details will be revealed only during further investigation.
