In the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Dhanas, the school administration has attempted to teach honesty to its over 3,000 students in the most practical way possible — opening a shop in its campus with no shopkeeper or CCTV, but just a message of 'pay yourself'.

Here, goods meant for students are kept with price tabs and the buyers simply deposit the sum in a piggy bank. The experimental shop has been running successfully for the last two months, because as yet, no case has surfaced where a student picked up goods without paying its fair price. To add to the lesson, if a student does not have any money, then they take the item and ensure that the deposit the money the very next day.

Sanjay Kumar, who runs a canteen in the school, said, "Many a times, if I leave the canteen open for some work and go outside, then the children come there and take what they need and leave its fair price on the counter."

The parents claim that they have also witnessed a behavioural change and now if they send their children to buy items from the market, they come home and give the full account and change.

Incidentally, most children at the school are largely from financially-weaker households of rural Dhanas.
