The last full-length Parliament session of the Narendra Modi government, the Winter Session, will commence from December 11 this year and will carry on till January 8. The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA), headed by Union home minister Rajnath Singh, met on Tuesday night at his residence, deliberating on the dates. They recommended these dates for the Session, Union parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Goel said.

While the Winter Session of the Parliament usually starts in November, the delay has been caused by Assembly elections in five states: Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Telangana. Even last year, the Session was held in December due to Assembly election in Gujarat. Results of the polls in the five states will be declared on December 11, the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament.

Goel said that during this session, the Modi Cabinet will take up the ordinance for the triple talaq bill as well as the disbanding of the Medical Council of India. The companies amendment ordinance too would be taken up in this session, Goel said.

"We seek support from the Opposition parties in the Winter Session of Parliament, and the government too would be ready for a discussion on all topics," he added.
