Will pressure Pakistan to release 26/11 culprits to India, says Rajnath Singh

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said that New Delhi will build up diplomatic pressure on Pakistan to ensure that the latter brings the perpetrators of the 26-11 attacks in Mumbai are brought to justice and handed over to India.

"The previous government had requested Pakistan to prosecute all the culprits behind the heinous attacks because this was an attack that was completely sponsored by Islamabad – there is no doubt about that," Singh told ANI.

"However, the lack of honesty with which the perpetrators of the attacks were allowed to go free and were not prosecuted has resulted in our government deciding to put diplomatic pressure on Pakistan so that the guilty parties are brought to justice. Further, we will build up pressure for Pakistan to hand them over to India," he added. Singh also expressed his condolences for those who lost their lives in the terror attacks.

"The attacks on Mumbai were very saddening. I extend my heartfelt condolences to all those who were martyred that day – our security forces and the innocents who had been killed," he said.

On November 26, 2008, ten Pakistani terrorists struck at various locations in Mumbai simultaneously, resulting in the death of at least 166 people, with a further 293 injured. The lone terrorist to be captured alive during the attacks, Ajmal Kasab, was hanged to death after trial on November 21, 2012.
