Sant Rampal, the self-styled godman was convicted in two murder cases on Thursday. Taking lesson from the Gurmeet Ram Rahim verdict and the Panchkula riots, the Haryana administration had deployed additional police force in and around Hisar. 

To maintain the law and order situation, operation of trains from different parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana to Hisar has been stopped today, news agency ANI said.

Here’s all you want to know about Sant Rampal 

Satguru Rampal Ji Maharaj was born on 8 September 1951 in Village Dhanana, Tehsil Gohana, District Sonipat (Haryana) in a family of farmers.

His father’s name is Bhakt Nandram and mother’s name is Bhaktmati Indradevi.

Before becoming a self-styled godman, he was appointed as a JE in the irrigation department of Haryana Government.

According to a News18 report, Rampal, whose followers call him 'Jagatguru Rampal ji', 'Sant Rampal ji' or 'Rampal Dasji', is the founder and head of a religious sect called Kabir Panth. 

His website claims, Rampal left his job after having worked for 18 years, so that the "people could be shown the true path". Further, it says, "After taking Naam-Daan from you, the devotees (Bhakts) started getting worldly happiness and spiritual experiences."

Rampal lived with his wife and two married sons — the couple had four children in total —in Shastri Nagar, Rohtak, at the time of his ‘renunciation’. Eventually, all of his children moved in with him at the ashram, reported Hindustan Times.

According to reports, Rampal preached to his followers that the 'holy trinity' of the Hindu pantheon- Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh- must be denounced. Instead, Sant Kabir should be respected as the supreme God in Hinduism.

He reportedly told his followers that all the holy books in Hinduism point to Sant Kabir as the supreme being. He is said to have proclaimed himself as a direct descendant of Sant Kabir, He has also reportedly claimed that his birth was predicted by Nostradamus.

His website also claims he has lakhs of followers in Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Punjab, West Bengal etc states, who after taking "Satnaam Updesh" from him, have given up alcohol, marijuana, smoking, meat, egg etc.
