West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency profile:
West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency is witnessing a keen battle among an incumbent MP, a former one and a popular lawyer turned young politician.
BJP has renominated Parvesh Varma who won 2014 elections aided by Modi wave with a massive margin by 2.70 lakh votes. AAP's Jarnail Singh was second and Congress' Mahabal Mishra came third. In 2009, Mahabal Mishra won from West Delhi seat, which was created after delimitation in 2008. Mishra defeated veteran BJP leader Jagadish Mukhi to win in 2009. But in 2015, Assembly election, AAP virtually made a clean sweep in this constituency. West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency comprises of Madipur (SC), Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Janakpuri, Vikaspuri, Uttam Nagar, Dwarka, Matiala, Najafgarh. This time Congress has fielded Mahababl Mishra again. AAP's candidate is Balbir Jakhar
There is large presence of Jats, Sikhs and Poorvanchalis in this seat. AAP is making the statehood issue the biggest poll plank in this constituency. On the other hand, Parvesh Varma is making nationalism and BJP government's report card in it the big election agenda. He was even given a notice by EC for alleged poll code violation when he made a statement about Army and Pakistan.
Congress which used to be very strong in this area is now a shadow of itself with much of votes shifting to AAP. How much Congress can revive or retain their core factor may become a key factor in the final outcome in this seat. West Delhi like the other seats in the national capital voted on 12th May.
