The vehicle of state BJP president and party MLA Dilip Ghosh was vandalised on Sunday at Hooghly district of West Bengal as he was returning from a party rally.

The incident happened near Kalipur at Dankuni in Hooghly district. Five cars have been damaged allegedly by TMC supporters. Some of the other leaders including Joy Banerjee and party’s youth wing secretary Prakash Das had also been hurt during the process. Ghosh, in his car was rescued by his security personnel.

“Our rally at Masat in Hooghly drew a lot of crowd. This is the reason why TMC workers have attacked our cars,” Ghosh said.

Banerjee said that TMC supporters had pelted stones at the vehicles. “Glass on my car window has also been damaged. We have informed Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh about it. Will also file an FIR at the local police station,” Banerjee told media persons.

During his address earlier on Sunday Ghosh had said that they did not want to fight but that did not mean they would not put up a resistance or would not retaliate if attacked.

TMC district leadership has immediately distanced themselves from the attack. “I have heard about the incident but I am sure no one from my party was involved in the attack. We don’t believe in politics of violence,” said TMC district president and state minister Tapan Dasgupta. He also maintained that it was a result of infighting within the party.
