West Bengal: School bars HIV positive student from attending classes
The victim's mother claimed that initially, the school authorities had assured to support the boy, but later turned their back after pressure from other parents.
A school in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district threw out a class 1 student after the child tested positive for HIV.
According to a report by IBNLive, the school authorities barred the student from attending classes in June, after guardians of other students raised objections about the kid's presence.
The student's mother is also HIV positive and works with a government agency to spread awareness about AIDS. The school authorities imposed the decision despite having conducted an awareness programme in the school which had assured the school authorities and guardians that the disease is not contagious.
