Newly-acquitted in the Mecca Masjid blasts, Swami Aseemanand, who hails from the Hooghly district of West Bengal, is likely to campaign for the state BJP for the upcoming panchayat polls. State BJP president Dilip Ghosh confirmed that he had spoken to Aseemanand and asked him to come to Bengal and campaign.

"I spoke to him earlier and told him about the situation in Bengal. I told him that we needed him to work for the party and he conceded. He will be here campaigning for the party in the run-up to the Panchayat elections, but the dates are yet to be finalised," Ghosh said. Ghosh and Aseemanand's association goes back a long way when the former was posted at Andaman and Nicobar Islands as an RSS pracharak.
