Night curfew in West Bengal to continue with other rules in place to curb the coronavirus infection in the state
Amid the scare of the third wave of the coronavirus, the Mamata Banerjee-led government has decided to extend COVID-19 restrictions in the state till September 15. Night curfew to be imposed between 11 pm-5 am. The order of the extension came on Saturday (August 28).
Earlier, the government had announced the extension of the lockdown till August 30 on August 12. The night curfew in West Bengal was earlier between 9 pm - 5 am but was later extended to 11 pm - 5 am.
The order came after India started recording more cases of the coronavirus across states. After seeing the devastation of the second wave of COVID-19, it is only precautionary to extend the lockdown for the safety of citizens.
Earlier, CM Mamata Banerjee has said that local train services in the state of West Bengal would remain shut till full vaccination is completed. "Local trains will commence not before state completes 50% vaccination," the CM said.
On the vaccination front, CM Mamata Banerjee said, "We are aiming to accelerate Covid-19 vaccine drive in suburbs around Kolkata if we get them. Until 50% vaccination doesn't happen in rural India, local trains won't operate till then."
