Congress and CPI-M on Thursday urged the Election Commission to monitor the activities of jailed ex-minister Madan Mitra inside the hospital where he was admitted two days back. CPI-M leader Rabin Deb said CCTV cameras should be installed in the hospital cabin of Mitra and all his activities should be monitored by the poll watchdog.

"This should be done so that he is unable to influence voting in the next two phases. He got admitted for that reason only," Deb said after meeting state Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta.

Congress also submitted a similar complaint with the EC against Mitra, who was admitted to the state-run SSKM Hospital following complaints of chest pain and breathlessness on April 26. Mitra was arrested in connection with his alleged involvement in the Saradha scam.
