West Bengals state BJP president Dilip Ghosh had been hospitalised in the evening on January 22, following severe low back pain. Hospital authorities, in a press statement, said that primary diagnosis showed prolapsed invertebral disc and that an MRI had been done. ‘Patient remains clinically stable and conscious, having a normal diet and is communicating comfortably with the seniors and his party colleagues’, the statement said.

Hospital sources said a complication had been detected mostly at L-3 and L-4  vertebrae. He has been kept under observation for the next 24 hours and after that the hospital will take next steps. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee enquired about his health over the phone. “She had called up to find out how he was and advised him to follow doctor’s instructions,” said a senior BJP leader.

On Monday, Ghosh had scheduled party programme at his Assembly constituency, Kharagpur. He had reached there on Sunday itself and on Monday morning since waking up he had felt sick. He felt an acute pain in his lower back. Local physicians were consulted and upon their advice, he was brought in an ambulance and admitted to a private hospital off EM Bypass. The hospital has formed a four-member medical board to monitor Ghosh’s health. A senior doctor of the hospital said that certain nerve-related complication had been diagnosed and he had been kept under round-the-clock surveillance.
