NEW DELHI: Rebuffing the BJP’s call for “political solidarity” against the government over the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said his party would have no “truck with such a pro-imperialist party”.

He said: “The BJP-led government was infamous for kowtowing to the US.” Karat pointed to the secret talks between Jaswant Singh and Strobe Talbot, the US deputy secretary of state during Bill Clinton’s presidency, and LK Advani’s visit to the CIA headquarters.

“The eagerness of the NDA government to become a ‘natural ally’ of the US - to the extent of considering sending Indian troops to Iraq - will not be forgotten,” Karat said.
