After Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the makers of controversial film Padmavati were welcome in West Bengal if they wanted to put up a premiere or even screening the film, Haryana BJP leader Suraj Pal Amu on Friday threatened Mamata saying that she would meet the same fate of Surpanakha, sister of Ravana in Ramayana. “Mamata Banerjee wants Padmavati to be released in West Bengal. Women with demonic nature should realise what happened to Surpanakha. He was taught a lesson by Lakshman,” he said.

Senior TMC leaders in Bengal, naturally reacted to the comment.

“He should ask for forgiveness. If he doesn’t, he must realise that people of Bengal is watching everything and will give a fitting reply,” Partha Chatterjee, TMC national secretary general said on the sidelines of a public meeting at Canning in South 24 Parganas.

State minister of state for health Chandrima Bhattacharya at a rally in Kolkata said, “People are watching these provocative statements. We will see who cuts whose nose. Mamata had been elected twice convincingly in Bengal.”

Birbhum TMC president Anubrata Mondal said that it was easier said in Haryana. “It will not be possible to say such things in Bengal,” he said at a meeting.
