The police found Masanori Hori dead in his room in Novotel in New Town after repeated calls and knocks on doors by hotel staff since Wednesday did not get any response, says a TOI report.

The room was later opened in the afternoon with a master key and the staff found him dead on his bed. They informed the police.

The body was carried to a private hospital close by where the doctor declared him dead on arrival.

While the police suspect that the man had a cardiac arrest, they have started a case of unnatural death and sent his body for post-mortem. "Since the body was found under mysterious circumstances, we have started an unnatural death case. The post-mortem report will clear the air," said a police officer from New Town.

An empty liquor bottle and a glass was found on the reading table next to the bed.

The Japanese man had come to Kolkata for official purpose.
