Watch: Gir forest employee pleads lion in Gujrati to let him go

In what explains the intrinsic connections between all organisms on earth, an interesting and heartwarming video has surfaced on Twitter. The video shared by Prakash Javadekar, the Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change shows a Gir Forest employee's conversation with a lion who was sitting in the middle of the road blocking his way. 

The employee pleaded the lion in Gujarati to step out of the way, and to every netizen's amazement, the lion obliged and allowed the employee to leave peacefully.

"A beautiful example of harmonious co-existence," said  Prakash Javadekar, the Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.

The nation enters the last tow days of the Wildlife Week 2020, and the nation should pay heed to an important message shared by the Prime Minister. He said that country through initiatives like ‘Project Lion’ and ‘Project Dolphin’ are being implemented to conserve endangered species. Modi also said that the celebration of Wildlife Week is an ideal occasion to reaffirm the commitment towards conservation of wildlife and harmonious co-existence of all living beings. 

Earlier on June 10, 2020, the Prime Minister took to social media and made the announcement that the population of Asiatic lions in the Gir forest increased.

"Two very good news: Population of the majestic Asiatic Lion, living in Gujarat’s Gir Forest, is up by almost 29%. Geographically, distribution area is up by 36%. Kudos to the people of Gujarat and all those whose efforts have led to this excellent feat."

Meanwhile, the All India Tiger Estimation 2018 survey has entered the Guinness World Record for being the world’s largest camera trap wildlife survey. The survey was declared to the nation on the Global Tiger Day last year.

The 2018 “Status of Tigers in India” assessment also conducted extensive foot surveys that covered 522,996 km (324,975 mi) of trails and sampled 317,958 habitat plots for vegetation and prey dung. It’s estimated that the total area of forest studied was 381,200 km2 (147,181 sq mi) and cumulatively the collection and review of data equated to some 620,795 labour-days.”

The latest results of 2018 had shown that India now has an estimated 2967 tigers out of which 2461 individual tigers have been photo captured, a whopping 83 % of the tiger population, highlighting the nature of the survey.

The All India Tiger Estimation done quadrennially is steered by the National Tiger Conservation Authority with technical backstopping from the Wildlife Institute of India and implemented by State Forest Departments and partners.

Union Minister Prakash Javedekar tweeted about the achievement, saying that this is a shining example of Atma nirbhar Bharat which in the Prime Minister’s own words, was attained through sankalp se siddhi.
