NEW DELHI: A court here has cancelled a non-bailable warrant against noted film producer K C Bokadia's son in a case related to the dishonouring of a cheque after he paid a fine of Rs 1,000.

Bokadia, his son Pramod Kumar and their Mumbai-based film production firm BMB Productions were accused of causing losses to capital-based film financier Star Entertainment, which provided Rs 1.71 crore to them for making the film "Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam", by dishonouring a cheque.

Metropolitan Magistrate A K Chaturvedi cancelled the warrant against Bokadia's son when he turned up in the court and paid the fine of Rs 1,000.

The court, in an order in July, issued the warrant against Pramod for September 15 and forfeited his personal and surety bonds after dismissing his application for exemption from appearance before it.

"He has not been appearing in the court for last several dates. No specific ground for exemption has been given. Hence, his application is dismissed," the magistrate had said.

Star Entertainment director T P Aggarwal had filed a complaint in the court which alleging that the accused had issued him a cheque drawn on Sangli Bank in Mumbai for Rs 20 lakh in October 2004, but this was dishonoured as the account did not have sufficient funds.

Aggarwal further accused the Bokadias of cheating and having malafide and dishonest intentions by concealing the fact that they did not have enough funds in their account.

In the complaint under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Aggarwal alleged that though Bokadia had paid back a part of the total amount, a cheque for Rs 20 lakh was dishonoured.
