Want to locate the nearest COVID-19 vaccination centre? Here's how to do it

Getting vaccinated is the need of the hour, but often lack of information regarding vaccination centres can hinder that process.

In the second wave of COVID-19, India has recorded an unprecedented rise in the number of cases. Getting inoculated has become more important than ever. 

India started with its first vaccination drive in January for all health workers. In its second vaccination drive, the government approved inoculation of everyone over the age of 60 and people over age 45 but with co-morbidities.

In the third phase of vaccination drive, the government approved shots for all citizens above the age of 45. The COVID-19 vaccine is administered in two shots where the first jab is given after a gap of three to four weeks form the first shot.

The cost of the COVID-19 vaccine in private hospitals is fixed at Rs 250 while at government hospitals, is being administered for free. Currently, two vaccines have been given approval in India- Covaxin and Covishield. Both these vaccines are made in India. 

Getting vaccinated is the need of the hour, but often lack of information regarding vaccination centres can hinder that process. Citizens can visit the CoWIN portal or the MapMyIndia online site to locate the nearest vaccination centre.

Step 1- Visit the official website of CoWIN at cowin.gov.in. On the homepage look for the ‘Find your nearest vaccination centre’ section.

Step 2- You find India’s map where you can scroll into your region to see the vaccination centres. To make it easier, you can also select the ‘Current location’ option from the tab next to th emap and click on ‘Go’. You can also enter your PIN code.

Step 3- A list with name of hospitals and vaccination centres will appear with address of the centre. It also has a ‘Get Direction’ option which opens up directions on hw to get to the location on the MapmyIndia portal.

Step 4- In an alternative option, you can also head to the MapMyIndia web portal or download the  MapmyIndia Move App.

Step 5- Register on the site and after logging in click on ‘Current location’ in search box or enter your address or place name or eLoc of interest which is a 6-character digital address for any place across India.

Step 6- Now, from the left menu, click on the ‘Vaccination Centres’ option.

Step 7- Select ‘Get directons’ to receive accurate directions and real-time navigation to the vaccine centre.

Meanwhile, tech giant Google has announced that it would soon roll out the possibility of location COVID-19 vaccination centres on Google Maps.
