The cases of high voltage damaging consumers’ electrical appliances are on the rise in the city.

In the last month only, there have been many cases of high voltage damaging appliances in six localities, but the discom fails to provide a solace in terms of compensation and guarantee to the consumers that such incident won’t recur in future. Instead what the people get is hollow assurances and excuses.

The aggrieved parties are now coming together and demanding a compensation from the discom for losses after getting the surveys done. Several people met in Jaipur on Sunday and decided to lodge separate complaints against the responsible officials.

Commenting on the issue, Vidyut Vikas Parishad general secretary RN Sharma said, “While the consumers pay every penny for each unit of electricity consumed, the costly electrical appliances get damaged due to negligence of the engineers. On Saturday, high voltage in Sachivalaya Colony damaged appliances in at least 15 houses.”

Likewise, in Pratap Nagar, Sanganer and parts of Sanganer, rising incidents of high voltage have been reported since September 15, but the discom officials are not ready to accept that damages have been caused due to their negligence. Meanwhile, power cuts in most parts of the city continued to trouble the residents on Sunday also. Usually, power cuts are not scheduled on Sundays, but this Sunday, the discom did so on the excuse of maintenance. Several colonies, including Sikar Road, Jhotwara, Vishwakarma and Sanganer reported power cuts for several hours.

Production in several factories in Vishwakarma Industrial Area remained suspended as, according to the officials, maintenance of 132 KV grid substations in VKI necessitated the power cut.

These days complaints of declared and undeclared power cuts have become a routine affair in the city.

‘ELCB’ will help
Engineers suggest that the people should use ELCB (earth leakage circuit breakers) in their homes to protect their appliances from high voltage.

The device disconnects power in case of high voltage and stops the supply to the house, protecting human lives and electrical appliances from the flow of high voltage.
