Describing legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika as the "gift of Assam to the world", Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan today said with his demise the 'voice of Brahamaputra' has fallen silent."It is with a sense of grief that I learnt the news of the sad demise of Bhupen Hazarika, one of the most loved singer, lyricist, musician, filmmaker and writer of India," he said."Hazarika at once brought to one's mind the image of the beautiful state of Assam, its culture, its rustic life and the Brahmaputra river. He was the gift of Assam to the world," the Governor said.He described Hazarika as the "voice of Assam and the voice of Brahmaputra.""With his demise, this Voice of Brahamaputra has fallen silent," he said.
