BJP’s P Sanyasi Raju, Congress’ Yedla Adlraju, YSR Congress Party's Bellani Chandrasekhar and TDP’s Ashok Ganapathi Raju were the key candidates in the fray in 2019.

The constituency has been recognised as one of the most backward in the state, therefore, it is funded under the backward region grant fund programme. The district though is known for its mountainous terrains while agriculture is the main occupation.

2014: Ashok Ganapathi Raju Pusapati (M) of the TDP, who received 536549 votes defeated Venkata Seetha Chalapathi Kumara Krishna Rangarao Ravi (M) of the YSR Congress who got 429638 votes.
2009: Botcha Dr Jhansi Lakshmi (F) of the Congress received 387694 votes defeated Yerrof the Congress received 411584 votes. He defeated Appalanaidu Kondapalli (M) of the TDP who got 351013 votes.
Lok Sabha elections in all the 25 constituencies in Andhra Pradesh took place on April 11. The state also witnessed simultaneous assembly election which will be held on the same day.
