Viral video: Noida's DLF Mall of India roof collapses, faces reopening delay

A video currently going viral on social media shows the roof of popular Noida shopping mall DLF Mall of India collapsing. The video showing the immediate aftermath of roof collapse, with a cloud of dust rising, is viral on Twitter.

A video currently going viral on social media shows the roof of popular Noida shopping mall DLF Mall of India collapsing. The video showing the immediate aftermath of roof collapse, with a cloud of dust rising, is viral on Twitter. 

There is no clarity whether the video was recorded recently or is old. However, those who shared the video hinted that it was recorded recently. 

Reports said the mall is currently closed due to coronavirus pandemic. It was allowed to open in mid-June after the over two months of strict lockdown over coronavirus disease (COVID-19) but shut down within a week without any stated reason.

Social media users who shared the video speculated that the mall has to remain shut for months for repair after the roof collapse. 

DLF has not publicly commented about the roof collapse, or the possibility of its reopening. 

A media report quoted mall authorities as saying that the roof collapse was part of a renovation drive at the mall to ensure social distancing, and claimed that the video is a month old. 

The DLF Mall of India in Noida is a popular hangout and shopping destination for people of Delhi-NCR. Situated opposite the Great India Palace (GIP) in Uttar Pradesh;'s Noida, the mall is one of the largest in the region.
