Verdict on Ayodhya will satisfy both communities: M Karunanidhi

Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi today said the Allahabad high court judgment on the Babri-Ramjanmabhoomi issue would satisfy both communities and was in the interest of peace.

"This verdict will satisfy both the communities from the point of ensuring peace in the country. The fact that it allows the aggrieved persons to go in for an appeal is welcome," Karunanidhi, whose DMK is a constituent of the UPA, said in a statement here.

The VHP said the verdict had "vindicated the faith of millions of Hindus that the place where the Babri Masjid stood is the janmasthan (birth place) of Lord Ram".

In another statement, VHP working president S Vedantam said, "The verdict is not a success or failure for any party who contested the title suits." 

He urged both communities to join hands to build a Ram temple paving way for Hindu-Muslim unity "in the larger interests of nation". 

The Indian National League's Tamil Nadu unit appealed to both Hindu and Muslims to maintain peace, harmony and brotherhood focussing on the country's secular fabric. 

Though the verdict has "been pronounced favouring the Sangh Parivar, still there is an option open for the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board to approach the Supreme Court for final verdict on this dispute", INL state unit president Syed J Inayathullah said.

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy urged various Hindu organisations such as Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha, VHP and RSS to form a Lok Sangharsh Samiti and launch a national agitation demanding that the Government of India amend the
Acquisition of Certain Areas of Ayodhya Act of 1993 to bar constructing any structure other than those connected with the
temple of Lord Ram.

Meanwhile, the police said no untoward incidents were reported from any part of the state. 

"It is absolutely quiet and calm,"  ADGP (law and order) K Radhakrishnan said.
