Veerappa Moily happy with SC order, hopes all will respect Ayodhya verdict

Law minister M Veerappa Moily today welcomed the Supreme Court decision to dismiss a plea seeking the deferment of the Allahabad high court judgment in the Ayodhya title suit and said the government has always taken a "secular and objective" stand on the issue.

"It is a welcome decision from the honourable Supreme Court. It is very precise, they have been very clear. They didn't want this uncertainty to be prolonged. That is the stand which we have been taking," he told reporters here. 

The law minister said the government had taken a very clear stand in the case as successive governments have tried to support any kind of compromise in the case which could not be achieved.

"At the same time, we don't want (prolonging of) the case that has gone on and evidence has been laid and they are waiting for the verdict. We never wanted to obstruct the process of law and course of justice," he added. 

Hoping that the people would be mature enough to maintain the equilibrium and bow down to the judicial verdict, whatever it is, Moily said, "there are forums available for them such as the Supreme court. As far as the government is concerned, we always maintain a secular and objective stand."

He said the unanimous decision of all the parties in the title suit to adjudicate in this matter and wait for a verdict was a "good trend and mature enough for all the litigants to accept the verdict of the judiciary".
