After losing both her hands in a mishap years ago, young Sajida now helps her father by tailoring clothes in village Janeta near Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh.

Sajida, daughter of a farmer, Mohammad Hanif, met with an unfortunate accident when she was eight. She was helping her father to cut fodder in the fodder machine, both palms of little Sajida came into the machine and were crushed away. Since then, the girl has been left with just one thumb.

However, this did not stop Sajida from going ahead in life. With the help of her sole thumb and toes, she tried to write. “It was a very tragic accident but I could not have let it hamper my growth,” said Sajida, while speaking to this correspondent. Reportedly, her practice bore fruit and recently she graduated from college. Alongwith studies, Sajida also learnt tailoring and crafting.

Overtime, the young woman has achieved mastery over her tailoring skills. Infact, she assists her father financially by carrying out tailoring works in the village. Moreover, she also conducts free-of-cost classes for children of the village. “I am proud of my daughter. She has become an inspiration for all the residents of the village,” said Hanif, father of Sajida.

Sajida plans to pursue her Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) after completing her graduation. “It is my dream to become a teacher and teach the kids, especially the ‘divyang’ ones who have been bereft of basic education,” said Sajida. She has also appealed to the government to pay special attention to ‘divyang’ children and bring policies aimed at providing education to them.

Speaking on Sajida’s accomplishments, District Coordinator for Women Helpline ‘1090’ Sangeeta Bhargava said, “Due to her indomitable spirit and optimistic thinking, Sajida has become a role model for ‘divyang’ children and daughters of the district.”
