Uttar Pradesh: Fake doctor practising for 10 years arrested by police in Saharanpur

A person using a fake medical degree and running a clinic for the last 10 years has been arrested by the police in Deoband of Saharanpur. Police say the fake doctor Ompal Sharma during this time performed more than 7,000 surgeries. The MBBS degree obtained from the accused is in the name of Rajesh Sharma and certified by the Karnataka Medical Council.

The police investigation also revealed that Sharma still runs his clinic in Bengaluru and accused Ompal Sharma used to work with him in the clinic. The accused forged the degree by placing his photo on the original copy and then received fellowships in many medical associations based on it. What's more surprising is that the accused was also registered in the Ayushman Bharat scheme run by the Centre, highlighting gross negligence on part of the health department in scrutinising his eligibility documents.

SP Dehant Vidyasagar Mishra said, "Our special team went to Karnataka and got all the records of the original doctor with the degree in 15 days."
