As per TOI, the girl resides in Kila Mohamadi village of Aashiana. Her father works as a class III employee with Railways in Lucknow.

The victim had gone to buy toffee at 3.30 pm but did not return. Her parents began to look for her but after failing to find her they lodged a missing report at the Aashiana police station.

When the search was going on, some locals found bleeding in a grove near a Gurudwara in Ashiana. She was taken to Lok Bandhu Hospital by the police and later to the King George's Medical University.

According to Circle Officer, Cantt, Avanish Mishra, there were grievous injuries in the girl's private part indicating sexual assault. He also said that since the girl was found quite far from her home and it is not possible for a child her age to travel so far.  "It seemed that someone picked her from way," he said.
