The incident took place along the Colonelganj-Paraspur route in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district when the boy was playing near the footpath late in the evening.

"A vehicle from Om Prakash Rajbhar's convoy hit him and he died on the spot. We have registered an FIR," said Vishwanath, the father of the victim.

The villagers also laid the body of the child on the road in protest.

An FIR was registered of causing death by negligence and rash driving was registered.

“Shiva Goswami died when he was hit by a vehicle in minister Om Prakash Rajbhar’s fleet in Colonelganj area of the city,” The Indian Express quoted Additional Superintendent of Police (Gonda) Hridesh Kumar as saying.

Reports said that the minister's convoy didn't stop after this incident.

However, the minister claimed that he didn’t know immediately that the accident was caused by a car in his convoy.

“I didn’t go back to the spot as I was already 25 km away. Police officials advised me not to go back as people were protesting,” Om Prakash Rajbhar told CNN-News18.

The minister also said that he will certainly go and meet the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, UP CM Yogi Adityanath ordered compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of victim and asked DGP UP for a detailed report of the incident.
