Jaishankar said the issue between India and Pakistan is not Article 370 but terrorism.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has dismissed any talks with Pakistan unless Islamabad acts on the issue of terror and becomes a normal state.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi on completion of 100 days of the second term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, Jaishankar said, "We have a unique challenge from one neighbour. Until cross border terrorism is successfully stopped...until that neighbour becomes a normal state that will remain a challenge."
Adding, "Part of the problem with Pakistan is it is only doing the talking. It is not doing anything on terrorism. They think nice words are answer to the real problem. The real problem is the dismantlement of this industry they have created.. show me a country in the world whose neighbour can conduct terrorism and talk to the neighbour."
He said that issue between India and Pakistan is not Article 370 but terrorism.
We must make the world realise.I always ask other people show me anywhere else in the world where any country conducts terrorism openly against its neighbor as part of what it considers its foreign policy," he said.
Both Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Pakistani foreign minister SM Qureshi will be in the same room during SAARC informal foreign ministers meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Asked if he will meet Qureshi, Jaishankar said, "We will see when that happens. We were together, during the Commonwealth meet in London, these are international events."
Explaining, "Where SAARC is concerned, it is about regional cooperation, you need trade under MFN, connectivity. If you look at the future of SAARC, which country is promoting it, which is impeding it."
He also dismissed any meeting between Prime Minister Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan, saying "just look at the climate right now and that will answer your question."
On India accepting 2nd Pakistani proposal for consular access for Kulbhshuan Jhadav despite the terms being the same, Jaishankar said, "Our objective was to seek access, to ascertain his well being...We wanted to begin the proceeding how so ever unsatisfactory it is."
He also highlighted the human rights situation of ministries in Pakistan, saying, "If there is an objective human rights audit, I can confidently assert who will come last."
