Unnao Rape Case: Yogi Adityanath under fire for not arresting accused

Even as an FIR has been lodged in the Unnao rape case and CBI probe recommended in the custodial death of the victim's father against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who late on Wednesday night came to 'meet' the SSP Lucknow at his office, the Yogi government is under fire for not immediately issuing arrest orders.

"The state government is shielding the accused BJP MLA while we are facing life threats. We will hold a dharna in Delhi and take our complaint to Prime Minister Narendra Modi if Kuldeep Sengar is not arrested immediately," demanded Asha, the rape victim's mother.

After a submission of the SIT preliminary report, along with separate reports by the DIG Prison Love Kumar on the role of jail administration to District Magistrate Unnao Ravi Kumar NG late on Wednesday night, the Yogi Adityanath government ordered for filing an FIR against Sengar under rape charges and recommended a CBI probe into the custodial death of the survivor's father.

Principal Secretary, Home, Arvind Kumar said an FIR has been lodged at Makhi Police Station on a fresh complaint by the widow of the deceased Surendra Singh.

"A CBI probe has also been recommended into the illegal arrest and the subsequent custodial death of the rape victim's father," added Kumar.

Meanwhile, the Circle Officer Safipur, Unnao, Kunwar Bahadur Singh has been placed under suspension for negligence in handling the complaints of the rape victim and her family.

"The rape victim and her family have been provided adequate security," said DGP OP Singh.

The DGP, however, made it clear that the MLA will not be arrested by the SIT or the police since no charges have been proven against him till date. "For us, he remains a respectable elected person till the CBI proves him guilty. It is up to the CBI to arrest him after investigation," replied the DGP.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee launched 'hall bol' and organized a protest march over failure of the state government to arrest the accused BJP MLA.
