"In West Bengal, the man who was the biggest road-block between development and me is the now EX-Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra," Babul Supriyo, Member of Parliament from Asansol in Burdwan district, tweeted.

He alleged that Mitra was a "TMC-cadre in a IAS post" but wished the officer good luck on his next assignment at the Centre under Transport minister Nitin Gadkari. Mitra has taken over as Secretary in the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

"Sanjay Mitra was single-handedly responsible for making sure that WB state officials do not cooperate with me. He was a TMC-cadre in a IAS post...However, I wish him all the very best while he joins as the Secretary in one the most well-performing Ministries of GOI, under Shri Gadkari", he said.

"Under GOI, we'll ensure that Mr Mitra walks an extra Mile to ensure that every mile of highway in West Bengal is done with super-speed," he said. Mitra was not available for immediate comments.
