Unaccounted cash of Rs1.5 crore has been seized from various parts of Himachal Pradesh ahead of the Nov 4 assembly polls, an Election Commission official said on Tuesday.

The seizures are part of the Election Commission's efforts to curb distribution of cash and liquor in the poll-bound state.

A total amount of Rs2.22 crore was seized till Monday from various parts of the state. Of this, Rs63 lakh was released after verifying facts. The remaining amount has been deposited in the state treasury, the official said.

Similarly, 2.72 lakh ml of illicit, country-made and Indian-made foreign liquor was also seized from various parts of the state.

The Election Commission has appointed 28 expenditure observers for the state.
