Speaking to the gathering, Bharti was saying that she would contest from her long-time constituency Jhansi and expressed her respect for yoga guru Baba Ramdev while the tears rolled down her face.
She held her speech for a while then resumed it.
BJP had earlier mulled fielding Bharti against Congress president Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareilly, reportedly on Ramdev’s suggestion.
The clearing of the air by the party came after Bharti herself asserted that she would not leave Jhansi where she has already been campaigning. "I am thankful to Baba Ramdev for the proposal. But I cannot leave my Jhansi," Bharti said. She conveyed the decision to party chief Rajnath Singh.
