Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on Monday announced measures to prevent recurrence of Kedarnath type tragedy which occurred a year ago.Uma Bharti said her ministry will take up the repair of embankments of the rivers which were damaged during the tragedy under Flood Management Plan. She added that her Ministry will also collaborate with Ministries of Environment and Tourism in this task.The Minister said Central Water Commission which gives advance warning of flood in the rivers has now been instructed to give warning about any increase in the water level of lakes of more than 50 hectares in size and located in high altitude. The Commission will pass on this information to the concerned states.She further asserted that a nationwide tree plantation drive and public awareness programme will be held tomorrow on the first anniversary of Kedarnath tragedy.Tree plantation drive will be held at Gangotri, Haridwar, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Navdeep and Ganga sagar. The main function will held tomorrow at New Delhi.
