Two persons died of gastroenteritis and 15 others took ill in the past two days at
Kendughati village in remote Gurundia block of Orissa's Sundargarh district, official sources said today.

Two patients were shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) in serious condition and the rest were being treated at Banki Health centre, officials said. A medical team from Banki Health Centre had visited the affected village and started door-to-door treatment.

The tribal village with a population of over 1,000 has no safe drinking water source like tubewell and people drink water from ponds and wells.

The disease broke out because of drinking contaminated water, sources said.
